Breast Cancer Trials National Conference

The Brief

To create a virtual conference platform that allowed breast cancer survivors to connect with academics and medical researchers (within the field) in a manner similar to which they would within a normal, live, conference setting. This not only required an online production element but also a means for distributing event merchandise to participants before the event took place.

The need for this virtual conference style event was due to Covid-19 restrictions meaning delegates were unable to travel domestically at the time of the event. Rather than wait for restrictions to ease (which were undetermined at the time), the virtual conference would allow BCT to hold their event on the date originally attended.

The end goal for the event organisers was to raise awareness not only of breast cancer and advancements within the field, but also encourage survivors of the disease to consider becoming ambassadors for the organisation’s charitable arm and raise funds for future research.

The Design

Working with Crowd Culture’s production partners, a virtual conference was designed that incorporated the following:

Key Features

The main key feature of the event was the seamless interchange between each element of the production run sheet; from MCs welcoming the event presenters to facilitating the questions of participants at the end of each session, each transition was designed to flow without technical interruption.

This was strengthened by the development of specialised network servers throughout different geographical locations within Australia that ensured seamless, fast and reliable access to the internet throughout the duration of the event. Having these separate servers ensured that should there be any potential disruption to the internet connection, the conference platform would continue to be supported without the outward presentation being effected.
